Sadly, I report that Professor Robert C Bull passed away on Saturday 31 August.
Professor Robert C Bull (1921-2013)
He discovered, and was the first to excavate the altar and the ancient city of Luza on the top of Mount Gerizim.
My sympathies are with Doctor Vivian Bull and her two sons at this difficult time. I offer my deepest condolences to you. May his soul rest in peace.
He was a great scholar and friend. Since our first meeting in 1970, I had the pleasure of talking with him, sometimes along with your son Robert, when we discussed his excavations on Mount Gerizim in Samaria. Just recently, in the last issue of A.B. – The Samaritan News I noted Professor Bull’s important work.
Vivian, according to our Israelite-Samaritan tradition, those who are born or pass away on Saturdays are very special personalities before the Almighty. There is no doubt that Robert was such a personality. I will dedicate a special update about him for my many readers and the readers of A.B. – The Samaritan News in the last issue of 2013, No. 1150 (October 4, 2013).
